Personal Development

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT at DE BOHUN

De Bohun pupils have the skills and knowledge needed to develop fully as individuals and as members of families and social and economic communities. Through this learning pupils become responsible for the health of their bodies, minds and relationships.

Personal development- builds self-esteem and emotional intelligence. Pupils learn about their own feelings, emotions and how to manage them effectively.

Social Development- Pupils learn about forming positive relationships, effective communication, teamwork and respecting diversity. They develop skills to interact with others in a respectful and inclusive manner.

Health and wellbeing- this covers topics like physical health, nutrition, exercise and personal hygiene. Pupils also learn about mental health and strategies for positive emotional well being

Economic Education- Pupils learn about the importance of money management including budgeting and saving.

Cultural Capital at De Bohun

Through a variety of engaging activities, trips and experiences we actively promote cultural capital development for De Bohun Pupils. This will instil a deep appreciation for diversity, ensuring every pupil has the opportunity to expand their knowledge and vocabulary to develop a well-rounded view of the world today.

De Bohun Primary School British Values Statement

At De Bohun Primary School, we value the diversity of backgrounds of all pupils, families and wider school community.

The Department for Education states that there is a need:

“To create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs”.

The Department for Education defines British Values as follows:

  • Respect for democracy and support or participation in the democratic process
  • Respect for the basis on which the law is made and applies in England
  • Support for equality of opportunity for all
  • Support and respect for the liberties of all within the law
  • Respect for and tolerance of different faiths and religious and other beliefs

Our school reflects British values in all that we do. We aim to nurture our children on their journey through life so they can grow into safe, caring, democratic, responsible and tolerant adults who make a positive difference to British society and to the world. We encourage our children to be creative, unique, open-minded and independent individuals, respectful of themselves and of others in our school, our local community and the wider world.

 SCHOOL COUNCIL

At De Bohun we have are proud to have pupil representatives that take part in  School Council meetings.  This council is in place so that pupils have a voice and are involved in decisions about the school that affect them.  Through their class representative, all pupils have the opportunity to raise issues, share ideas and take part in discussions that involve all of their classmates in reaching a democratic solution.  Wider issues that arise are discussed further at School Council and this ensures that as many pupil voices as possible are heard.  Pupils at De Bohun know that this is their school and their thoughts and ideas matter.

Online Safety

Our children celebrate Safer Internet Day. Safer Internet Day promotes safer and more responsible use of online technology by children and young people. To keep you up to date with the latest trends of what children are doing online and current ‘apps’ and games that they may be using and playing..

We held a Parents’ E-Safety workshop. The workshop focused on how you can keep your child safe on the internet. You can see the presentation here.
